Biography
Amber Garlick, MSW, LSW, is a licensed social worker in Indiana. She earned both her bachelor’s and her master’s degrees from the Indiana University School of Social Work at IUPUI in 2014 and 2015, respectively. In graduate school, Amber was a NCWII Fellowship recipient, and specialized in child welfare and childhood trauma. When she began her work as a therapist in 2015 with Centerstone of Columbus, she provided therapy and life skills instruction to children and their families, as well as adults experiencing severe mental illness and/or substance use disorders. She continued to provide individual and group therapies to these populations throughout her time there. She joined the clinical team at the CRH Treatment and Support Center in late 2019 as an individual and group addiction therapist.
Amber approaches therapy from a strengths-based and trauma-informed perspective, and is certified in Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT for PTSD, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy; additionally, she has a passion for working with those in the LGBTQ+ community. Amber enjoys infusing art, music, and even a bit of whimsy into her therapies, in order to connect with the diverse processing and learning styles of those she serves. She often utilizes Motivational Interviewing and Empowerment Theory during therapy as well, regardless of therapeutic framework, in order to help others recognize and embrace their own value and worth. Amber is endlessly inspired by the strength and resiliency of the human spirit, and views this work as an honor and a privilege.
Outside of work, Amber enjoys drawing, painting, singing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family -- especially her son.
